Why I prefer to play golf at a club

After playing golf for a couple of years on the public courses I have now joined club and have to say that it has made playing golf a much better experience. I am finding that there are a lot of benefits to playing at a club rather than on the public courses. The main reason for this is largely down to the fact that there are fewer people at the club than there are on the public course.

The main reason that I prefer to play golf at a club is that the quality of the course is almost always better. There are some outstanding public golf courses to be sure but these are few and far between. In most cases you will find that the clubs are better maintained and they usually have a better design to begin with. For instance in Las Vegas you can find some of the finest golf courses I've ever seen! This makes playing a round of golf more enjoyable than it would be at a public course. This is the biggest reason that I like to play at a club but it is far from the only one.

The other big reason that I like playing at a club rather than a public course is that it is much easier to get a tee time. Since membership in the club is limited there will not be nearly as many people trying to play. This means that I can get a tee time on fairly short notice and I can get one that is at a reasonable time. When you play at a public course you normally have to call several days in advance and may have to play at a time that is less than ideal. This is especially true on the few really good public courses.

In addition to being less crowded the people who play at a golf club are usually better players. Obviously if somebody is going to spend the money to join a club they are going to be pretty serious about the game. That usually translates into being better players, although this is far from always the case. Nevertheless it is far less likely that you are going to get stuck behind a group of inexperienced golfers than it would be at a public course.

One of the other advantages to playing at a club is that there are lots of other activities and amenities that you can take advantage. Most golf clubs these days have things like tennis courts, gyms and spas that you can use before or after your game. There is also a restaurant and a bar that is almost always better quality than you would find at a public course. This allows you to spend more time relaxing and socializing after your round which is after all the whole point of playing golf for most people, at least it is for me.
